Subject: Czech Guitar - Sagitarius - Tell Me More From: PennyBlack Date: 02 Oct 05 - 09:00 AM Whilst at the Orton Guitar show (This Thread)I came across a range of guitars by Sagitarius, handmade in the Czech republic, played a couple and was very impressed with the sound quality, build and price. Anybody got one? The Website -doesn't say a lot. PB |

Subject: RE: Czech Guitar - Sagitarius - Tell Me More From: GUEST,Art Thieme Date: 02 Oct 05 - 11:37 PM I've heard they made the only decent copy of the Gibson J-300. But nobody can find out about that guitar either! ;-) Art Thieme ;-) |

Subject: RE: Czech Guitar - Sagitarius - Tell Me More From: GUEST,mandotim Date: 03 Oct 05 - 09:34 AM Czech luthiers are one of the great undiscovered treasures. People like Prucha, Krishot, Holoubek,Capek,Lebeda etc make truly wonderful mandolins, and many of them make guitars too. Stelling mandolins are made there. The country has a history of instrument making, esp. violins and cellos, and a huge stock of tonewoods. Get in quick while the prices are still at Eastern Bloc levels! I played a Lebeda resonator recently, and it was mindblowing. Tim from Bit on the Side |

Subject: RE: Czech Guitar - Sagitarius - Tell Me More From: GUEST,mandotim Date: 03 Oct 05 - 09:56 AM Eric; agreed, if you buy them in the US or GB. In the Czech republic it's a different story. Someone is making big bucks, and it isn't the luthiers. Also; I'd argue that spending the same money on a Czech mandolin as you would on a mid-priced US instrument, you would get more for your money with the Czech deal. Cheaper labour costs mean that they can put more time in on finishing, binding, inlay, tap tuning etc. Tim from Bit on the Side |
Subject: RE: Czech Guitar - Sagitarius - Tell Me More From: mooman Date: 03 Oct 05 - 10:09 AM Furch is an extremely high quality guitar well established here in continental Europe (they also made my Duolian copy resonator sold under another name) and there is every reason to believe Sagitarius will also be of high quality. Every Czech luthier-made instrument (guitar or mandolin) I have seen has been excellent. As mentioned above, people are cashing in on this an prices are no longer cheap. Peace moo |
