Strange year for hockey fans. I must admit I'm glad it's back. Of course I'm a flyer's fan and we seem to be STOCKED this year! That aside, I'm not sure everybody, even former fans, really missed it. whatdaya think?

Yeah I'm glad Hockey is back. I'm a Senators fan and the Sens are about the only team more stacked than the Flyers. That is if the Dominator has another season left in him.

I refuse to watch hockey when it's 25C and sunny... ie, early fall and late spring, with the exception of the last few series before the Cup. Having said that, I will watch the Penguins to see how Sidney Crosby does.

The Sens were very strong on offense and defense last full season, with a very young core of stars. A year and half of maturity with help a lot an Dany Heatly was a great aquisition. Hasek is about the best goalie of the last 15 years, He's won NHL MVP twice. Like I said, if he brings his "A" game the Sens will be tough to beat.

I, for one, am looking forward to the new season. I am a born again fan after giving up on hockey since shortly after the first expansion from the original six. The last few years I have become a fan of the Ottawa Senators whose style of play is reminiscent of the Canada - CCCP series of the good old days. This is the way hockey used to be played and hopefully this season with the new rules in play and with some of the technical changes being made we will see a return to REAL hockey as opposed to the clutch and grab hackey we've been exposed to of late.

I was absolutely THRILLED to see the whole first page of the sports section (well, almost) devoted to the most important questions of the day -- Will this be Turco's last season? What are the rookies bringing to the game after a year off? What's Modano's story anyway? These are the things inquiring people want to know!!

Canucks are gonna be TOUGH to beat this year.
The Flames will be good as well. Whoever picks that Flames will have the best shot in this pool. They made the finals last season and have improved their roster.
Detroit will have a tough time with the new salary cap. They have to change the nature of their team.
I'm in the Pool though with an side bet of the same with Pseudolus on Sens v Flyers Its likely that one will be settled in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Now what was up with last night, the Flyers were cruising with a 3-1 lead and it fell apart! I'm still confident, it's only one game! It's not too late to join in the fun folks, pick your team and be proud! Penguins fans? Rangers? Canadians? OK, good thing I'm typing cause I couldn't have asked that last question with a straight face!

The Leafs lost because of the one biggest mistake in the history of hockey, the shootout. It completely disregards the TEAM efforts of the previous 3 periods and OT, and reduces the "game" to 2 players per side at a time. It's unfair, anticlimatic, assistless scoring. It ignores the team sport concept that one extrememly dominant player can be handicapped by his own team, or matched by multiple players on the opposing side. I'd rather see my own beloved Leafs go down to defeat the old way than win by shootout.

Last night's game should have been a tie at the end of three periods. The only other reasonable solution is a no tie league where sudden death limitless OT decides the game.

Otherwise I'm happy hockey is back.
