Subject: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: Anglogeezer Date: 05 Oct 05 - 03:20 PM I was at the Sun Inn, Beverley, last night ( 4 th October ) for our weekly Tuesday session and learnt from the barman that Shaun the landlord will be leaving next Monday ( 10 th October ). No information was available regarding his replacement. Sooo. This Friday's and Sunday's sessions will be OK -- 07 th & 09 th October -- but everything from Monday onward will need changing if there isn't a new landlord. If it does close, the Tuesday Sun session may move up to the Woolpack, Beverley, for next week (the 11 th) and join in with Ged's piping session until we decide on an alternate venue until the Sun re-opens. regards Jake |
Subject: RE: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: Gedpipes Date: 06 Oct 05 - 10:06 AM Thats very kind of you to ask Jake :-) I love been a temporary kind of thing |
Subject: RE: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: Anglogeezer Date: 06 Oct 05 - 12:09 PM Weell Ged, you can guess what it was like, the barman told us at about 10:30 so a quick decision was needed, for a plan B in case the Sun IS closed. Promise not to get in your way!! We'll sit in a corner, winge and chunter and try to decide where to go. ( NO, don't tell us). |
Subject: RE: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 06 Oct 05 - 03:50 PM I don't know - I go away and leave you lot on your own for a week and look what happens! Will be at the Sun on Sunday for, possibly, the last session Roger |
Subject: RE: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: Gedpipes Date: 06 Oct 05 - 03:54 PM as long as you realise its a not singing event (apart from sir Roger! who has a cracking voice) |
Subject: RE: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: Graham and Jo Date: 06 Oct 05 - 04:37 PM We have had a phonecall and Sean's decided to close up tonight. John behind the bar has kindly spoken to Oddfellows just 20 yards up the road and they would be happy to have the Friday session there tomorrow. The Friday session tomorrow then will be in Oddfellows unless by some chance the Sun is open after all. We'll put a note on the door of the Sun to re-direct anyone. |
Subject: RE: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: Hand-Pulled Boy Date: 07 Oct 05 - 06:34 AM I'll bring my Strat and amp if that's o/k Ged? |
Subject: RE: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: Gedpipes Date: 07 Oct 05 - 08:22 AM why don't you all leave me alone. All I want is a quiet life with Tedderino ;-) |
Subject: RE: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: GUEST Date: 07 Oct 05 - 11:06 AM Oddfellows tonight then |
Subject: RE: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: ossonflags Date: 07 Oct 05 - 11:37 AM Erm................... no session at sun on Sunday then Rog? In the event of the mudcat being of the air give us a bell about sunday if you have an alternative venue. |
Subject: RE: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 07 Oct 05 - 04:51 PM If the Sun is closed on Sunday, perhaps Hodgson's would be a good alternative - anyone going that way who could inquire? R |
Subject: RE: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: ossonflags Date: 09 Oct 05 - 08:56 AM hve just been in touch with the bow'ld Sir Rog and the sess is on at the "Hodgesons today" 3.00ish start. |
Subject: RE: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: ossonflags Date: 09 Oct 05 - 08:59 AM Les and Maggie, Me, Rog, Harper and Chrissie, The Cultural Attache for Bolsover, are just a few who will be there today. |
Subject: RE: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: Graham and Jo Date: 09 Oct 05 - 10:38 AM Landlord at Oddfellows was vary welcoming and says he would be happy to have Tuesday session there too. A few phone calls and opinion seems to be that it would be unfair to swamp another session. It looks like Oddfellows for this Tuesday. |
Subject: RE: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: GUEST Date: 09 Oct 05 - 11:26 AM It said earlier in thread it was Woolpack I have allready spread the word, will it change again before Tuesday? |
Subject: RE: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: ET Date: 09 Oct 05 - 01:32 PM Went to Hodgsons this afternoon (Sunday) - Good do for 8 of us. Landlord happy about hosting all Sunday Sessions here (first Sunday is Monks Walk. Its a good do. Can as many as possible come from next Sunday (fear not me as am in Leicestershire playing Leicestershire Small Pipes) but will be there following Sunday. So it looks like Sundays in Hodgsons and Tuesdays in Oddfellows. Hope new landlord arrives eventually for the Sun but it needs a bob or two spending on it and am not sure if Enterprise Inns are that way inclined. |
Subject: RE: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 09 Oct 05 - 04:37 PM ET says it all - Tom reckons Oddies for Tuesday (and he's the guvnor) and we agreed this pm that Hodgson's will be our preferred option for sundays except when Mick runs the session in The Monk's Walk on the first Sunday of the month. If we get a few more at Hodgson's regularly we may get an improvement on the Tetley's that is the only hand-pull on offer at the moment. R |
Subject: RE: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: Anglogeezer Date: 09 Oct 05 - 04:54 PM Soo. It seems to have been agreed, the SUN INN sessions to move as follows :- Sunday sessions to HODGSONS, Tuesday/Friday sessions to ODDFELLOWS. Until further notice. All in favour say AYE! All against can sit outside the SUN until it re-opens!! Nothing more to be said then. Jake |

Ever since they started using the parlour up at `t farm for other than Sundays and funerals its all gone down t`ill. The biggest drama we ad in my day was when Dolly put a red sock in to wash with the white shirts and Matt `ad a puncture in the Landrover.....and all on the same day as well!! I blame the writers, they should never `av tried to copy that "Dallas" and get my Jack to do a shower scene when he came back from Italy again......`e never looked the same in my book....I was always a bit suspicious of him ya know....t`old Jack wer a novelist you know......the new one was so stupid I dont think he could `av written his name on a cheque! And then there was the vicar......and then they built the M62 and then all them furriners from down South came in......some of em from even further than Leeds!!!...........(Grandad?!! Put yer coat on....I `ear there`s a cottage for sale in Glaisdale.....w`ere movin!!!) |

Subject: RE: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: Paco Rabanne Date: 11 Oct 05 - 04:01 AM Hello Mick, Long time no see. Are you finding it a pigs arse to park down Chants at the moment as well? |
Subject: RE: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 11 Oct 05 - 04:42 AM Michael .... it really is quite simple ...... even a Yorkshireman should be able to grasp this concept. Ever since Henry V111 the monarch has been the head of the Church of England and as such is God's representative in our sacred isle. Ever since Henry 1V the ruling monarch (God's representative you recall) has also carried the title of the Duke of Lancaster, thus the Duke of Lancaster ipso facto is God's representative on the fair land of ours. Thus Lancashire MUST be God's county See quite easy |
Subject: RE: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: ossonflags Date: 11 Oct 05 - 05:55 AM Enough of this Royalist buffoonery already.I'm suprised at yer Raggy. We was never much good at listening to what the King had to say in 'ull, remember Charles the First? However, the City and County of Kingston upon Hull - as we are correctly called - recieved its charter from Edward the Third on 1st April 1299 In 1440, the former borough acquired the status of a city becoming a county corporate administratively separate from Yorkshire and having jurisdiction over an area extending west of the city known as Hullshire - incidently part of which is the latin quarter were me and El Teddo are in residence. I believe that firmly nails me colours to the mast? |

Subject: RE: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: ossonflags Date: 11 Oct 05 - 06:13 AM And...............the "Sun" is still shut |
Subject: RE: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 11 Oct 05 - 07:23 AM Aha ......... the Latin quarter, so you approve of ghettoes, were you can place your downtrodden incomers eh. Racially segregated areas is it, no doubt you also approve of the greedy landlords who charge over inflated rents for squalid housing for the poor reprobates who are forced, because of your lack of a integrated settlement policy, to live there. No wonder god chose the Lancastrian side to favour. A land of bread and honey with pots of jasper and spittoons of jade |

Next Tuesday is also in Oddfellows although there was some tale circulating that the new Licensee of the Sun starts tonight (Wednesday). Sean, the ex Landlord of the Sun, was in Oddfellows as usual. |

Subject: RE: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: Hand-Pulled Boy Date: 17 Oct 05 - 06:16 AM To whom it may concern in folk land. The Sun opened on Friday. I had a pint and a chat with the new landlady Elaine on saturday and she is very keen to have live music in the pub. She will welcome back the sunday and tuesday sessions. All you have to do is turn up as usual. She also wants to attract regular custom and has installed a pool table, is probably going to install a big screen and enjoys a sing-song herself which probably means Kari-hoky (that word!). Also the quality of the beer should improve with time. At least I hope so. So there you are. |
Subject: RE: News about the Sun Inn, Beverley From: Les from Hull Date: 17 Oct 05 - 10:49 AM Oh a pool table and a big screen - that'll help! |
