Bob Dylan has been on tour in U.K. for a week now - and not a word on Mudcat? I saw him on his first night, on his first visit to Nottingham; personally, with a few reservations mainly with regard to the sound and the venue, I had a great time as did the people around us. The following night the "Nottingham Evening Post" published a very acurate and balanced review of the concert www.thisisnottingham.co.uk only to receive a barrage of comments either in support or violently against him. He ignored the audience, he sounded bored, he didn't play guitar, he didn't sing his "greatest hits" and more. Reports from the national press from Nottingham and his ensuing gigs have been equally varied. Anyone else seen him this time round, any opinions?

Saw him in Munich (only German concert this time I think) about 3 weeeks ago. The venue was ablsolutely crap, a big long hall which by all appearances was previously a factory or a production line or maybe even a slaughterhouse. The admission fee was 54 Euros and we were all crammed in like sardines (standing only) which meant I got a glimpse of him about 3 times.

However having said that I thought Dylan himself was great. Granted he didn`t play guitar all night, only keyboards, but with a band of that quality, he didn`t have to. The sound was adequate.

It`s nothing new that Dylan doesn`t do most of his hits and the ones he did sing were unrecognizable versions. Dylan is Dylan and you either dig him or hate him. The former for me please.

JB

Thread Sale: Robert Zimmerman Notes is about the Bob Dylan "first poems signed 'Dylan.'"

Just in case someone didn't recognize the name.

(Some historical comment from Art T and others there.)

It might be of vague interest to those who've been on this thread. It's rather hard to tell, with Dylan, whether it's lack of recognition or just divided opinion about Dylan.

I saw him in Nottingham too. Yeah there is always the dissapointment of him not playing guitar, but on the whole, his voice is always fantastic. Some great material and new takes on old material was played. 7/10
