Subject: RE: missouri waltz?? From: katlaughing Date: 16 Jan 99 - 02:56 AM My dad will. I'll talk to him this weekend. I can hum it, pick it out on the piano and put it into ABC for you, but don't remember the words. kat |
Subject: RE: missouri waltz?? From: katlaughing Date: 16 Jan 99 - 03:05 AM Sorry, if I blame it on the computer will you all believe me? Musicman: If you go to the Links, and then to the Lester Levy Collection to Box 189 Item 121, you will find the Missouri Waltz that Bing Crosby sang and a couple of other versions of it. They aren't the words I grew up hearing, but the tune is the same and it is beautiful. A fiddle can really sing playing this one. katlaughing |

Subject: RE: missouri waltz?? From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 16 Jan 99 - 07:14 AM My granddad sang it this way to my mom who sang it to me: Hushabye, my baby. Slumber time is coming soon. Rest your head on mama's breast while mama hums a tune. The sandman is coming. The people are humming, so hushabye; (Here they couldn't remember or were censoring the lyrics, so they hummed for 2 phrases) The banjos are strumming, the people are humming, so hushabye. I remember seeing it in a Reader's Digest songbook collection. My mom-in-law sings the censored line, something about "When I was a pick-a-ninny on my mama's knee" (For those outside the US, a pickaninny is a term no longer in use for a child of African American heritage. Not complimentary!)
