Subject: BS: Most common one word desciptions of Bush
From: Arne

There's a new poll from The Pew Research Center For The People And The Press. Alongside of Dubya's sinking ratings (across pretty much all demographics is an interesting side note about people's 'abbreviated characterisations' of the Preznit:
President Bush's declining image also is reflected in the single-word descriptions people use to describe their impression of the president. Three years ago, positive one-word descriptions of Bush far outnumbered negative ones. Over the past two years, the positive-negative balance has been roughly equal. But the one-word characterizations have turned decidedly negative since last July.

Currently, 48% use a negative word to describe Bush compared with just 28% who use a positive term, and 10% who use neutral language.

The changing impressions of the president can best be viewed by tracking over time how often words come up in these top-of-the-mind associations. Until now, the most frequently offered word to describe the president was "honest," but this comes up far less often today than in the past. Other positive traits such as "integrity" are also cited less, and virtually no respondent used superlatives such as "excellent" or "great" terms that came up fairly often in previous surveys.

The single word most frequently associated with George W. Bush today is "incompetent,"and close behind are two other increasingly mentioned descriptors: "idiot" and "liar." All three are mentioned far more often today than a year ago.
Ooooooohhh, that's gotta hurt! But perhaps we can help the eedjit out a bit before the next poll and see if we can put out a meme to bump those nasty pejoratives off the top ... perhaps by hyping "ass" [present rank 10], "jerk" [rank 12] and "stupid" [rank 15] instead....

Cheers,

Several possibilities. Certainly "disingenuous"--especially about looking for excuses to invade Iraq, rather than listening also to information against his plan. "Imposter" is the name of a book by Bruce Bartlett, conservative columnist and commentator (I believe at National Review). Book spells out in great detail Bush's hypocrisy in claiming to be a conservative.

I'd go with the word "despicable"--as in worst president in the history of the US. There's a special place in Hell for leaders who start needless wars--only others in US history are Polk and possibly McKinley. War of 1812 could have also probably been avoided. Bush's place, however, is right next to Hitler--propaganda and cold-blooded calculation leading to war.

If I may talk like Bush, I shall herewith rebutt:

The war in Iran, uh, Iraq against Sadman Hessian, uh, Hussane, is necessary to save the people of Afghanistan from the Tallyman and his bananas. Based on the informatrion given to us, it's clear that the War on Terriers will mean we have to fight the SPCA.

Goodnight, and God Save America.

Up to now, at any rate, freedom of speech still exists in the US (that is, admittedly, a difference). But the road to war has parallels.

Sorry, I just resent the use of hate and fear propaganda campaigns (of course the number of yahoos who vote in the US is also discouraging.) But propaganda is the only thing in which this regime has proven mastery. It just so happens that it's very useful in appealing to a population already on edge. All you have to do is tell--or even imply   -- who to hate and fear--which the Bush "team" did.

They did so very successfully, too, Ron. Strange how easily people are led by it all, huh?

Sorry, but I can't think of any one-word descriptions of Mr. Bush. I can think of lots of two-word descriptions, all of which start with "fucking", as in "fucking moron" or "fucking warmonger".

Peace-

As I said, if the population is already afraid, as you know all they need is to hear who to hate and fear. 9-11, the first time the US mainland was attacked since when, 1812?--was a watershed. Bush and his fellow propagandists recognized this--and exploited it to the hilt.

Maybe to satisfy those that aren't comfortable with just one word for the adjectival phrase, we can coin some neologisms, some portmanteau words, such as "warhead", "fuckmonger", "raviot" -- or just the aptly descriptive word (and one of my favourites coined by a nice granny somewhere to describe Dubya a couple years back) "whistle-ass" -- that will satisfy the survey-takers next month....

Ron:
Read the link in my post at the top. You can't keep the people cowed, bullied, and silent forever. They're coming to their sense, slowly but surely....

Cheers,

Seems we had the same idea there Bruce.

My one word description would be Diplock, halfway between a dipstick and a pillock. He's in there somewhere.
