Subject: BS: Peace, love empathy, and understanding From: Georgiansilver Date: 13 Apr 06 - 02:13 PM In view of the recent 'lowering of the tone' of the Mudcat ethic, can we please have a thread where the posts do not degenerate into name calling, bad language and personal attacks. It is always a pleasure to come to the Mudcat to learn about music and to research tunes and lyrics. Coming to the BS is an extra which I enjoy occasionally. Let's all enjoy BS! With a little practice it is easy to be the kind of person who exudes the qualities presented in the title of this thread. Debate is good....degradation..not so. Best wishes to you all. Mike |

Subject: RE: BS: Peace, love empathy, and understanding From: katlaughing Date: 13 Apr 06 - 02:36 PM Good example of the Love we've known around here: in the post, today, I received George Papavgeris' new CD, autographed! Sent as a gift from a Mudcatter in the UK. My grandson is singing (no, he doesn't know the words, just lalala's:-) along as I give it a first listen. Beautiful, esp. the "warm, fuzzies" I get from knowing someone cares so much. There's much more among Mudcatters; it's done more behind the scenes or in the 3D world nowadays, I think, because lots of folks don't want to take a chance on being flamed, etc. Thanks, Mike, for a GOOD thread. luvyakat |

Subject: RE: BS: Peace, love empathy, and understanding From: Once Famous Date: 13 Apr 06 - 03:21 PM Actually, this thread is not about: religion politics George Bush Wal-Mart anything else controversial and unless it does, I give it perhaps 10 or so more posts until everyone is bored with it. Censor discussion about those and other controversial subjects and everyone will get along just fine. |

Subject: RE: BS: Peace, love empathy, and understanding From: Once Famous Date: 13 Apr 06 - 04:11 PM Right! Every thread should be like this one. though no one is naming exactly who they want to have peace with, live with, and understanding with, and the moment they do, opinions will differ. Do, keep daydreaming and forget about reality. |

Subject: RE: BS: Peace, love empathy, and understanding From: The Shambles Date: 13 Apr 06 - 07:35 PM OK I give up - I can't stand the tension any longer. Please can someone ask for it to be moved, deleted or closed, ask for the title to be changed or make a personal judgement or use a bad word? If this is what heaven is going to be like - give me the other place. |
Subject: RE: BS: Peace, love empathy, and understanding From: The Shambles Date: 13 Apr 06 - 07:45 PM Peace, love empathy, and understanding - without any humour is as bad as the lack of all four. |

Subject: RE: BS: Peace, love empathy, and understanding From: Azizi Date: 13 Apr 06 - 08:06 PM Wit and wisdom on demand- That's askin a lot. If I had some witty gems of wisdom, they'd rain down like -well rain. But as you can see, I'm all dried up. {well not really}. And-don't even go there. I didn't mean that way. |

Subject: RE: BS: Peace, love empathy, and understanding From: Azizi Date: 13 Apr 06 - 08:25 PM Let me correct that sentence before an English teacher shows up: "Peace, love, empathy, understanding, wit, and wisdom do not have to be boring." That's right isn't it? |
Subject: RE: BS: Peace, love empathy, and understanding From: Alba Date: 13 Apr 06 - 08:30 PM Skarpi, what are you saying?? What do you mean "This may or may not be my last message on Mudcat"? What's going on? This question falls under the heading of this Thread. Skarpi.. please explain what you just posted. Please. Love Judi |
Subject: RE: BS: Peace, love empathy, and understanding From: Azizi Date: 13 Apr 06 - 08:35 PM Skarpi, I love that "when one door closes..." saying. I googled it to see where it originated and found this: Posted by masakim on May 01, 2002 In Reply to: Re: When one Door Closes, another one opens posted by TheFallen on May 01, 2002 : : Can anyone tell me who wrote the above and also the rest of it please? : : "When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us." : Helen Keller (1880 - 1968) This proverbe was fulfild, when one doore is shut the other openeth. (_Lazarillo_, tr. D. Rowland, 1586) They are all sentences taken out of experience itself,... especially the proverb that says, 'Where one door is shut another is opened.' (Cervantes, _Don Quixote_, tr. T. Shelton, 1620) When one Door Shuts another Opens.... How often does the Divine Bounty surprize us with unthought of Felicity! (S. Palmer, _Proverbs_, 1710) 'When one door shuts another opens,' say the saucy servants. (R.S. Surtees, _Mr. Sponge's Sporting Tour_, 1853) 'The Job couldn't come at a betther time.' .... 'Ah, God never shut wan door but he opened another.' (S. O'Casey, _Juno and Paycock_, 1925) I do not accept that I have ... come to the end of the road.... When one door closes, another one opens. (D. Sanders, _Queen Sends for Mrs. Chadwick_, 1979) -snip- http://www.phrases.org.uk/bulletin_board/13/messages/1391.html That quote is also attributed to Alexander Graham Bell. There are many good, interesting doors {read "threads"} that have been on and will be on Mudcat. I know I'm not alone when I say I'll be looking for your contribution, Skarpi, to those future threads. |

Subject: RE: BS: Peace, love empathy, and understanding From: Alba Date: 13 Apr 06 - 11:30 PM I have been thinking about your Thread title GS. Just lovely by the way. Thank you, I did not do so before. I would like to add some other words. Peace, Love empathy, understanding, caring and humility. I would say wisdom but I believe that wisdom is something that comes with age or a deep sense of knowing and is seldom produced intentionally. A persons wisdom is usually only visible to those privileged enough to be in the presence of it's birth. It comes from a deep understanding of the things in your Thread title. I aspire to attain the knowledge that allows me to speak freely on the true meanings of these beautiful words. Learning about the things that unify rather than divides us is a inspiring aim and can take a Lifetime to achieve, if ever. Time spent on this task imo has to be time well spent. It is a lovely thread. So many lovely words out there that tame the ego and harness the arrogant and have the ability by their power to make one look inward.. Thanks again GS I wish you all the things you listed and more... Jude |
Subject: RE: BS: Peace, love empathy, and understanding From: sian, west wales Date: 14 Apr 06 - 06:25 AM I was at a funeral yesterday, and the woman's son read out a poem which I hadn't heard before, and he doesn't know who wrote it, but I liked it very much: The Oak Tree A mighty wind blew night and day; It stole the oak tree's leaves away Then snapped its boughs and pulled its bark Until the oak was tired and stark. But still the oak tree held its ground While other trees fell all around. The weary wind gave up and spoke, "How can you still be standing, Oak?" The oak tree said, "I know that you Can break each branch of mine in two, Carry every leaf away, Shake my limbs, and make me sway. "But I have roots stretched in the earth, Growing stronger from my birth. You'll never touch them, for you see They are the deepest part of me. "Until today, I wasn't sure Of just how much I could endure, But now I've found, with thanks to you, I'm stronger than I ever knew." Somehow, very Mudcat. sian |
Subject: RE: BS: Peace, love empathy, and understanding From: skarpi Date: 14 Apr 06 - 06:50 AM "When one door close another one opens " when you find the way in life by any reason is not going well you feel every door is closed and nothing will happen, but there is always another one who is gonna be open you just have to see it. My dear friends I am NOT leaving Mudcat , I haver never led anyone run me away by words and I will not do this time , yes I was hurt and angry yesterday but I got over it , but I feel sorry for them . May or May not - I might take a brake for a few weeks from writing threads Jude , I am not gonna be around to do computer writing for awile . The path of life , the road of life can be short or long and on the way you will find many little roads witch goes to left or right , some of them will lead to good things or bad things and it´s you, only you can get you on the main road again and you can becouse : "When one door close another one opens " Jude maybe we´ll sing s songs at the Getaway I would like to have a Bodhrán circle , I am not the only one who play this intrument and there s a lot of songs that we can sing using only Bodhrán. My plan is to come to the Getaway with my band but I don´t know if thats gonna happen, but if not I will travel alone singing : I´m an Icelandic cowboy and I´m long way from home ........ Emma wrote : Wit and wisdom ........around love and peace and understanding.... well I shure hope that will be when I return to this Mudcat town who keeps many diffrents souls. dear friends I will be back.......soon All the best Skarpi Iceland. |
