Subject: muppitz has a gig! From: GUEST,muppitz@work Date: 14 Apr 06 - 04:32 AM I'm not going to make a big song and dance about it but I have a gig on Sunday 16th April at the Old Poets in Ashover, Derbyshire. My family are all off to Lancaster this weekend, I couldn't afford it which was why I was available to do this gig, so if anyone is in the general vicinity, doesn't have anything better so do and fancies bringing along some moral support, I would be very pleased to see you! muppitz x |

Subject: RE: muppitz has a gig! From: muppitz Date: 16 Apr 06 - 02:35 PM I'm sure you've seen me do stuff before weelittledrummer! (If you are who I think you are!) I used to duet with Allan who ran the session at the Countryman. I will be doing mainly contemporary folk, some self penned stuff and I'm in danger of taking my bodhran so there's a bit of a mixed bag going on! I've been told I'll be starting about 9pm. I'm always getting confused with muppett but no, I didn't write the Curry song and as Les pointed out, I'm a girl. I'm also a fair bit younger than muppett ;-) Tom, when I have some tracks to put on it, I'll make the myspace a music one! Thanks for the moral e-support folks, it's much appreciated! muppitz x |
Subject: RE: muppitz has a gig! From: Big Al Whittle Date: 16 Apr 06 - 07:02 PM Muppitz is a young lady called Tina Taylor possessed of a truly impressive voice - husky, powerful and really very nice. as a debut gig - it was most impressive. She accompanied herself on the guitar, and on Step it Out Mary, she put her guitar aside and played the bodhran. She had two guitars - on in open tuning, and the other in standard. She moved between the two, and played both quite sensitively. The repertoire tonight was mainly contemporary in nature. She featured songs by Eric Bogle, Alanis Morrissette, and two by Joni Mitchell. The exquisite chord voicings of the Mitchell pieces were tackled with great competence and a bit of dash. The other songs were written by herself and a chap from the Wirral whose name escapes me. Tina is of an age when ones emotional life is bound to provide the subject matter of most songs - and there was one song about sincerity in love that was quite moving. There was another observational piece about working in a pub in Nottingham and the contrast btween St Patrick's day celebrations and St George's day. I think she finds the lyrical muse easier to locate than the street language needed for social comment - but all the same its great to see a young writer attempting to engage with the world she inhabits, rather than blethering on about the first world war and the press gang. Apparently she is already booked for several festival and I am sure she will soon have lots of fans, and lots of musicians will be anxious to accompany that voice. best wishes for the future Muppitz - I'd change that handle if I were you, you're bound to get confused with curry/farting song man from Bradford. al |
Subject: RE: muppitz has a gig! From: Rasener Date: 17 Apr 06 - 12:20 AM Nice write up there Al. :-) |
Subject: RE: muppitz has a gig! From: muppitz Date: 17 Apr 06 - 04:46 AM Thanks Al, that was lovely to read and very encouraging. But sadly, the handle is universal, I use it for many things so for now it will have to stay! muppitz x (Not the guy from Bradford who does the curry song!) |
Subject: RE: muppitz has a gig! From: mandotim Date: 17 Apr 06 - 07:44 AM Hi Tina! Sorry I missed the gig (I'm even sorrier now I've read the great review above!)I was folking about with Mr Happy and Fiends, and by the time it was time to set off for Ashover I realised I was waaaaay over the limit! Next time I hope. Tim from Bit on the Side |

Subject: RE: muppitz has a gig! From: muppett Date: 20 Apr 06 - 05:05 AM Hiya Muppitz, been having a chuckle about the confusion our 2 names cause, Been away recently so having a catch up on the postings. How did the gig go, about time you got one with that voice of yours, you're wasted in the Moor & Coast tent. Cheers Muppett, the one from Bradford who sings the farting curry song. N.B. I do sing a number of serious songs as well (Honest) |
Subject: RE: muppitz has a gig! From: muppitz Date: 20 Apr 06 - 07:38 AM Hey muppett The gig was great, they've asked me to go back again later in the year, I didn't make too many mistakes and for a first gig, I'm really happy with it! I see you'll be at Moor & Coast next weekend, hopefully we'll be able to pick up some, but not ALL (As there were some I'm sure we hope never to see again!), of last years shenanegans! Save me a seat in the showers. muppitz (who only eats curries rather than singing about them!) |
