Yes Tom, but the Piper's Sons are on Thursday 10 August. I think there's going to be a session in the Bedford tomorrow, 3 August.

Kitty

PS - Don T, will see you in the Bedford tomorrow night if you're still playing when I get back from the Ancbor!

Leaving Friday morning, hopefully there by evening (8hr drive if we're lucky!) BTW, I saw "Cloudstreet" (John and Nicole) in Edinburgh a month or 2 ago: asked if they were coming to Sidmouth again, but they're flying back to Oz very soon, so probably won't fit it in. We had a great night with them in "The Wee Folk Club" - only holds 30 people.

Now that's strange - mentioning Cloudstreet and on comes Tom Bliss, who along with Tom Napper I saw last year in Broadstairs on the very same venue as - - - Cloudstreet. I'll try to get to see you Tom (or is that Toms?)

Tom Tom and The Pipers Sons - (Tony Taffinder and Chris Parkison) - since you ask, Barden. As it happens we actualy formed the idea when John and Nic joined us on stage, first at Bromyard and then at Broadstars (plus Johnny and Vikki too)!

You can do SO much more with four :-)

I hope to make some of the singarounds and also catch up with George and Martin Pearson who I saw at Warwick and agree with everything that's been said about him.

What would an evening with him and Keith Donnelly be like?

One more tedious question before I can get truly excited: I'm arriving on Monday night (around 9pm) and understand from Box Office that my season ticket and camping pass will be held at the main campsite for me. Will there be a steward ore campsite manager about at that time who can hand them over to me? And where should I go to retrieve them? Box office couldn't really give me much help, so I thought you seasoned pros might have a thought or two...

Had to come home earlier than I would have wished (poorly car) but enjoyed myself. Saw quite a few catters, had some good sings, a decent session or two but no dances.
Morris dancers on the front were a rare species this year, where did they all go?
Missed too many people including Lizzie C.
I'll catch up with some of you for a decent natter and a drink or several at Broadstairs and Whitby.

Where are you all? I have less far to go home than most, I suppose. I'm slowly coming down after a great week and hoped to relive it here.

What was really good was listening to so much music in venues that didn't need mics and amplifiers. While Waterson Carthy and Coope Boyes and Simpson, not to mention the amazing Devil's Interval, were very good in the Ham Marquee, the sound was rather cold and hard. It was the smaller venues, the Manor, the War Memorial Club, and the Woodlands, that really had the best sound and atmosphere. It was the first year the WMC have taken part in the festival - let's hope they found it worthwhile and will be in next year too.
Talking of good acoustics, I spent a lot of the festival in the church, stretching myself vocally and musically in the West Gallery choir. It all came more or less right in time for our spot in the Blackmore Gardens on Friday and sent me home with a sense of achievement. The same I hope was true of the other 380 or so who according to Eddie Upton took part in the one or more of the workshops. That is one of the things I like best about Sidmouth.

Well, not vintage, but good. Certainly a lot of good will sloshing around that had disappeared in the Mrs Casey days. Let's hope the current (what do I refer to them as? The holding company? The great and the good?) can build on this. Very glad to see the return of the collecting tins.

Highlights for me: lunch times in the Radway (laid back and some splendid music), the firework display (somebody paid a *lot* of dosh for that) and an inspirational workshop by Crucible.

I've just got back from a fabulous week. Met old friends and made some new ones too. mikefromdorch - My wife was stewarding at the War Memorial Club so she'll be pleased to hear you liked the venue. I've at last met Lizzie so 'Hi Lizzie' it was really good to meet you at last.
All the concerts seemed to be well attended and the sessions too. For me a couple of memorable ones in the garden of 'The Swan' in the lovely weather we had, a very nice Saturday night in 'The Dove' and of course my sessions in 'The Bedford'. Boy were we heaving in there all week, and as usual not a single bit of trouble. Sidmouth really is alive and kicking. Long may it continue.

My wife was the one there on Monday morning, and she related that tale to me. One of her many special traits is her ability to handle just those sort of situations, and she normally will get them sorted to everybody's satisfaction. Once again I'll let her know - she'll be pleased. She was the one with the short hair by the way and I consider myself lucky to have 'captured' her those many years ago. A lovely lady.

John Barden, a self-confessed capturer of 'ladies' thinks Lizzie Cornish is a person? This is surely the cyber equivalent of anthropomorphism and a sad delusion. The phenomenen is merely a virus progam created for mass spam generation.

We got back last night, but i was too tired to switch on the computer.

A really great week, even better than last year.
John, I saw you every day in the Bedford but never got close enough to say 'hi'. Friday night in there was manic but brilliant. Lizzie mentioned she'd met you at last.

I got to meet George, and I'm listening to his CD now -lovely.

Highlights - the really nice people we met in the queues, the Manor Pavilion concerts, Chris Wood & Andy Cutting, the lovely local beer in the pubs, the late nights at the Swan after Ham concerts, the really nice hotel we stayed in after our self catering let us down, the Bedford of course, the weather, just spending a whole week with people who think like us and like the same things as us.

Lowlights - missing the ceilidh in the ford, the lack of information / confusion for the first couple of days, not getting to see everything I wanted (that would've meant missing my beer) having to come home.

I want to go again now.

GUEST,Spambuster Yes - Lizzie Cornish as a person, and a very nice one at that. Me, a capturer of ladies?? - you obviously have not seen me on the flesh (not a sight to be inflicted lightly). I captured one of the best though, lucky me is what I say.
Mrs. Annie - I'm sorry we never met properly, but as you say 'The Bedford' can be somewhat crowded at times. I put that down to the excellent music that eminates from everywhere in there (I don't include myself in that statemant mind you), the wonderful bar staff and of course Colin and Bev Pyne who put up with us all week. For my money there's nothing quite like a 'Bedford' session.

Still recovering from the journey home. Long and arduous with three grandchildren (are we there yet? I need a loo! NOW! etc.).

Though I had to take it more steadily this year ( the ticker, still recovering), I still managed to run my voice into the ground, and found the experience as perfect as ever.

Now looking forward to next year.

Of coure Mrs Annie - I remember now meeting you at Ely - as to the young fiddler he did say his name and I'm afraid I'm having a seniour moment; I think it was something like Graham Bradwell or something similar, but I completely agree, someone to keep an eye out for in the future. I think Elinor (the fabulous flute player with the red hair) mentioned that he joins in the sessions around the Bristol area. If I remember I'll try and contact her and come back with a name.

We meant to leave early Tuesday morning. In the event, we got stuck in a session and left Tuesday evening, arriving home around 11:30pm.

It was great to meet all the Catters, especially Peter and (properly) John B - even without the sloop. We had some great sessions, my concerts went well, chewed the cud with several people, and the culmination for me was the concert with Sandra Kerr, John Kirkpatrick, Mike Waterson and Lester Simpson; we had such fun back- and on-stage, we were all buzzing afterwards.

By Friday we had turned around, washed the clothes, shopped for food for daughter, and were heading for Broadstairs. But still Saturday morning we were mentally back in Sidmouth.

Yes, we fell in love.

For the first time I managed to keep most of my voice for the whole week. Regular use of the inhaler and getting fresh air seemed to do the trick, and of course next year we will have the smoking ban in place - that's going to help me enormously.
George Papavgeris - thanks so much for the inpromptu session that made you late on tuesday, I had a wonderful time listening to your great songs. Just one regret was not getting the singers name who sang the song about Van Gough cutting his own hair, and managing to cut his ear off - hillarious. Glad you enjoyed Sidmouth, it is a bit special.
