Check out the 'hidden' languages/slangs of the UK particularly Polari, Gypsy cant etc.

Mona = my
bone = good/big
jakon = well take a wild guess!

Cat must've grown up around a lot of this stuff

Stevens' fey pop songs are nothing compaired to the mini masterpeices that Richard Thompson turn out, such as this:

Richard Thompson turned to Islam but it didnt ruin his music. Neither does he bludgeon us to death with his views nor make shameful statements (exp. baying for Salman Rushdie's death.)

I bet you can guess who I am talking about?

I used to date Steven way back in the 70's. Mona-Bee-Jackon was his
play name for me, when he first saw my name tag backstage. The
name tag was misprinted "Mona B Jackon" - a misprint by the event coordinators. He started calling his appendage Mona Bone Jakon
for whatever silly reason. We were never intimate, apart from
cuddling and kissing.

Regards
Mona B Jackson

Cat Stevens going after Islam, was about as silly as the Beatles doing the Maharishi!...or Seals and Crofts getting B'Haih-ed to death...or Peter Green joining the 'Children of God'. If 'religion' is a thing from God, Why do they give up their gift from God, in order to take themselves more seriously?? Try saying 'Thank you' to God and share your gift??

I learned one interesting fact: The 'catter formerly known as "Penguin Egg" has since changed his name to "Rockin' Reeler," and when soemone changes their handle, all their old posts are relabeled with the new name.

Either way! Aah saw an interview (when he gave up performing & writing) where he stated that he gave up music when he took up his new religion because music & entertainment were frowned upon as "they took the thought process away from the religious thinking and all profit was sin"

Funny how he's now back recording with the full blessings of Allah - Is Allah runnin' out of funds then?

It is a fey folk album by an insipid English folk singer (of GREEK-CYPRIOT extraction) who went on to join one of the fastest growing and muderous religions in the world today.

Dave Polshaw and Penguin Egg,
Cat Steven's father was from Cyprus. Cypriots are usually either Greek or Turkish. His father was Greek, hence Greek-Cypriot. His mother was Swedish.

Cat Stevens was a great singer songwriter, his stuff was full of joy and whimsy and a strong and colorful imagination which loved company. And his contribution to the Harold and Maude Zeitgeist of the mid 70's will live on. He was on a search, and whether or not WE like where it led him does not require that we abandon our song fueled way down the "road to find out."

Wondering if a whole thread can be conducted in the lyrics of one album.

If so, can I have the Ring Cycle as mine?

14 hours of People shouting at each other in German (not the three minute version under discussion upstairs!) Plus, most of those involved are immortal, so when you get the feeling you're condemned to go over the same arguments until the end of time, you might not be far off....

Leeneia - Of course. How else do you think some of our most famous lyrics got where they are. It isn't just related to pop music either! No, hey no, nonny-nonny-no.

But I think I have already caused enough...
Trouble
Oh trouble set me free
I have seen your face
And it's too much too much for me.

Goes to show what fame (publicity) can do for a person. If an ordinary person said "mone bone jackon" nobody but a doting mother would pay any attention. But Cat Stevens has publicists, etc, so here sane adults are trying to ascribe sense to his vocables.

Dave the Gnome.

Islam is a religion, not a race, so how can I be racist. White people are Muslims. I am under no obligation to like Islam, but I do feel under an obligation to take issue with Muslims. Think of Cat Stevens's support for the fatwah against Rushdie or the silence of the majority of Muslims on the subject. Think of the bombings in Spain and London, not to mention the countless suicide bombers in Israel. Think of the murder of Theo van Gogh. Think of the stoning to death of adulterous in Muslim countries-or the public executions. Think how Muslims managed to intimidate this country into not showing those Belgium cartoons. Think how the left wing in this country derides the religious right and yet gives support to Muslims in this country, who often have an equally reactionary agenda.

As for Cat Stevens being fey and insipid-it is my opinion, nothing more. I wasn't putting it forward as being a fact. As you said-it cant be proved. Never said it could.

I understand Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world but I don't have figures or quotes to back me up. Let us just say I am pretty sure.

I was wrong about his ethnicity, for which I apologise. But I do not apologise about anything else.

Makes no sense = sex

Makes sense = death

Rule of thumb for all folk songs. Maybe it can be applied to all songs? In which case a whole gammut of confusing lyricism becomes very apparant!

Mares eat oats and does eat oats and little lambs eat ivy...

Filthy stuff;-)

Cheers
