Subject: BS: Name your favorite threads From: Azizi Date: 17 Aug 06 - 09:28 PM Which Mudcat threads are your favorites & why? I'll start the ball rolling in the next post. |
Subject: RE: BS: Name your favorite threads From: GUEST,Rapaire Date: 17 Aug 06 - 09:36 PM Coats and Clark have pretty good thread. |
Subject: RE: BS: Name your favorite threads From: catspaw49 Date: 17 Aug 06 - 09:38 PM Spancil Hill.........The Infamous Tiple Thread.........Hokey Pokey and the Druids.......Mudcat Juke Joint.............The Brazilian Rosewood Thread Nobody will bother reading any of these so I won't bother linking them. I think all of that group is in a section of the FAQ anyway. Pardon my cynicism but the joint ain't what it used to be and most people around here now could care less about older threads. It was a funnier and lighter time as well as a more scholarly one, unlike today when it is incredibly political and contentious in BS and silly as hell (read: moronic) up above the line as well. Spaw....in a fairly dark mood |
Subject: RE: BS: Name your favorite threads From: bobad Date: 17 Aug 06 - 09:40 PM Mercy, mercy me Things ain't what they used to be |
Subject: RE: BS: Name your favorite threads From: GUEST,Rapaire Date: 17 Aug 06 - 09:48 PM I happen to agree with Spaw -- too much politics, too much opinion, too little thought. Seems like everyone with an opinion is signing up and posting these days -- and you know what they say about opinions and assholes. |
Subject: RE: BS: Name your favorite threads From: Bill D Date: 17 Aug 06 - 09:49 PM Things are more like they are now than they ever have been before. (Dwight Eisenhower?) |
Subject: RE: BS: Name your favorite threads From: Azizi Date: 17 Aug 06 - 09:50 PM Though it seems like it's been longer, September 5th 2006 will mark my second year anniversary as a Mudcat member. I posted on this thread as a guest one month before then, so August 2006 actually marks my 2nd anniversary as a Mudcat poster. Since I started posting on Mudcat, I've found a number of threads to be interesting, informative, thought provoking, meaningful, and/or enjoyable. Here's some of some of those threads & why I consider them my favorites: Feelin The Blues because of the wealth of information in that thread and the fact that the posters' consideration & helpfulness made me feel welcome. **** I'm Rubber. You're Glue: Children's Rhymes ; and all the other theads on children's rhymes because I'm delighted by the creativity of children's rhymes and I'm interested in the continuity & change in these rhymes, and the origins and source materials of these rhymes. **** BS: Obit?: Blinkin' and other play on word threads because as a result of my involvement on Mudcat, I've learned that I enjoy play on words, and sometimes I like kickin back and having fun just for the heck of it. |

Subject: RE: BS: Name your favorite threads From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 17 Aug 06 - 10:05 PM Today Is A Good Day Because... The thread has been refreshing when I've really needed it. It's a good reminder to me that even the worst of days have something good in them. Jerry |
Subject: RE: BS: Name your favorite threads From: Bill D Date: 17 Aug 06 - 10:06 PM Then there was the INFAMOUS cut'n pasters creepin' back in in which I composed my stream-of-conciousness reply to Shambles and got it translated...*grin* |
Subject: RE: BS: Name your favorite threads From: Azizi Date: 17 Aug 06 - 10:07 PM I found it!! Though, I had difficulty searching through my archived threads, I didn't give up. And my efforts were not in vain. Here's my all time favorite fun Mudcat thread: Sponge Bob dead on Xmas eve |

Subject: RE: BS: Name your favorite threads From: Severn Date: 17 Aug 06 - 11:23 PM The one a while back on Merlin Banjos and The Chicago folk scene featured some marvellous pieces of oral history of a certain place and time and lured a number of people we don't usually hear from. |
Subject: RE: BS: Name your favorite threads From: Azizi Date: 17 Aug 06 - 11:30 PM Thanks to all who have posted to this thread. **** Btw, before starting this thread, I used the internal search engine to see if there had been previous threads listing favorite Mudcat threads. But I didn't find any. Surely, this is not the first thread "Mudcatters favorite threads" in-what 10 years?-of Mudcat's existence. If there have been other threads on this subject, would someone please post links to them. Thanks. |
Subject: RE: BS: Name your favorite threads From: katlaughing Date: 18 Aug 06 - 12:00 AM What Spaw said, esp. I think all of that group is in a section of the FAQ...Mudcat Classic Threads and Alice's Memorable Mudcat Threads. Anyone who was not here when PeterT. and Rick Fielding, as well as a few others posted, has no clue of how excellent this site used to be. I haven't seen many original, creative thoughts around here in 2-3 years, with a few exceptions such as Brett's Guam threads and Janie's Woman in the Holler story thread. kat |
Subject: RE: BS: Name your favorite threads From: catspaw49 Date: 18 Aug 06 - 12:11 AM There have been numerous threads on the subject. Kat listed the main compilation and HERE is one for 2001 linked in printer friendly format to preserve the order of posts. Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: Name your favorite threads From: The Shambles Date: 18 Aug 06 - 08:52 AM Gordon is a good name for one's favourite thread. I am sure if you ask - some anonymous fellow poster will change the thread's existing title to Gordon for you. |
