Here's a couple of books sources which you should find useful.

Tommy's Tunes. F.T. Nettleham. Erskine MacDonald 1917
The Long Trail; What the British Soldier Sang and Said in 1914-1918. John Brophy & Eric Partidge. Andre Deutsch. 1965.
What A Lovely War: British Soldiers' Songs From The Boer War To The Present Day. Roy Palmer. Michael Joseph. 1990.

And of course, don't forget that marvellous revue/film, Oh What A Lovely War.

Lt. Nettleingham was the compiler of both "Tommy's Tunes" and "More Tommy's Tunes."

Max Arthur has recently compiled "When This Bloody War is Over."

On the American side, there's Edward A. Dolph's "Sound Off."

The movie Fred mentions, "Oh What a Lovely War," is in a class by itself. Very worth while if you're interested in more than songs. But the songs really are from 1914-18.

Unsung Heroes, the show Cornwall Somngwriters have just put to bed was all about the Great War from the point of view of the Heligan gardners. Some brilliant songs there. Check out their website.

The 'Flaqnders Experience' has inspired several wonderful songs out of the participants including Les Sullivan, Mike Sparks, George P, oh and I've written a few.

No joy in When this Blody War is Over, which doesn't mean that it wasn't a WWI song, but indicates that it is less likely. Is it possible that you are talking about something from WWII?

When this Bloody War is Over is from the Great War. The reference to 'standing to in trenches', 'standing on the firestep' and 'Tickler's marmalade' in the third verse all relate to trench warfare on the Western Front. There's also a clue in the title of Max Arthur's book -

I had the rare privelage of sing my own WW1 trilogy of songs at the Getaway on Saturday consisting of
1 "We Think We Ought to go" about the reservists and first drafts of "joiner uppers" from August 1914 and the old Regular Army that strengthend the BEF Old Contemptibles
2 "My Grandfather Hated the Germans" my own family historical connection, containg family stories and anectdotes about my grandfather who joined up in 1915 and survived.
3 "Thiepval" the song about the dead and missing taking there names back from the monument and going home
All 3 are in either Aines song book or on the 'Cat somewhere
