I didn't want this lost or missed in Max's message about Mudcat and his family. It's often easy for us to read and respond to the good parts and kind of skip the bad. So here's just a reminder thread to focus in on this wonderful 'Catter and the only Mudcat employee as well!

Here's what Max said:

Pene Azul: Pene's father has taken ill, very ill. Pene has been spending about 20 hours a day tending to his father at the hospital. To do this, Pene has quit most of his jobs, and is in quite a bind with all of his and his father's bills, not to mention the medical expenses involved. And that pretty well sums it up. I owe so much to so many here that this is just one small chance for me to payback. Some of you might want to pay it forward. Believe me when it comes to this place, what goes around comes around and what you put in will come back to you in spades.

We all owe a lot to Jeff for all the work that he does and the knowledge he has contributed to this place......and just for being the friend that he is! He's truly one of the good guys. Do whatever you can.

There are a few bucks left over-- very few-- from the Friends of Rick Fielding Fund that was originally set up after his passing to handle "anonymous" donations toward the shawl/collection for Heather Fielding. The bank has been harrassing me to close the account and I think this is what I've been waiting for. If people want to make an anonymous donation, why not send a money order directly to the address provided? No offense but not all people on the internet are exactly trustworthy, even some here at Mudcat. If you aren't comfortable with sending funds via PayPal, I would encourage you to send a money order. There is no record of a checking account number and you can be sure that your money actually gets where you want it to go.

WYSIWYG has got some kind of "laps for money" thing going and she's even hitting up people in her own community that have never heard of Mudcat OR Jeff! She wrote me and explained the project but I'm generally stupid so let me just say it seems kinda' like a "Walk-A-Thon" thing where you pay for how ever many laps she does....I think she's jogging in a swimming pool but for all I know she might be doing the backstroke in Jello. The earrings and necklace are done and will be mailed to Jacqui, today. If you want to see a picture CLICK HERE. The earrings are made with pearl-like seed beeds and amethyst oval (lozenge.) The necklace has the amethyst lozenges, citrine triangles, drilled vertically, pearl-like seed beads and slightly larger pearl beads. It measures about 17-18 inches. ALL PROCEEDS TO JEFF'S FUND. I will length or shorten it for the winning bidder, but they will have to pay postage to get it to me. I'll pay for return postage.

Jeff, my friend, I don't know which is worse, losing a father you are very close to, or losing a father whom you hardly knew. Two different kinds of loss, I guess.
Be thankful you had him close all those years.

A loss like this is bittersweet. You have had to say "Goodbye" to your beloved father but he is now free of his illness. Let yourself mourn and know that you have done everything possible to ease his passing.

Pene, you learn (you already know) how to live with it, but it never "gets better". Whatever you've been told about the 5 or 7 (or 12) "stagesof grief", you'll find you can be in all of them during the same 2-second period, in no particular order, & off&on for years. Let your friends "take care" of you: visit for a day or 2, go to dinner, etc. There will be a "stage" when you actually FEEL the warmth & kindness they wished to give you & can help someone else with it. (I haven't known you for long, but it looks like you already spread that around.) For those who've wished there was some way they could give you a good return for the benefits they've received from your presence... I believe in God, Who Is good, so I say God Bless & keep you. Tw
