Subject: Thanks for mandarin oranges- Canada From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 16 Nov 06 - 09:19 PM Thanksgiving is long past in Canada (October), but November brings fresh Mandarin oranges from China, Korea and Japan, for which many Canadians give thanks. Many of us look eagerly for the first of the small boxes of this wonderful fruit in our grocery stores. These oranges ("zipperskins") continue to be a favorite well into December. Mandarins from China are the first to appear, the Japanese following about two weeks later. 'Japs' were the first on the market here years ago, but now more come from China, and quality is excellent. They seem exceptionally sweet this season- we are on our third box. Candy consumption must go down when shipments arrive. They are a welcome change from the tough-skinned California product, and the concentrated juice from Florida. If this gift from the Orient failed to appear, there would be questions in Parliament. I am sure many Canadians have stories and fond memories of this fruit from past years. |
