Subject: Best strings for acoustic bass guitar From: Les in Chorlton Date: 17 Nov 06 - 04:10 AM I have an acoustic bass guitar. Not the greatest musical instrument, but great fun to pick up and play. A, D, G strings sound ok. E a bit dull. I know that this is no suprise but are some strings better than others? |
Subject: RE: Best strings for acoustic bass guitar From: Uncle Phil Date: 17 Nov 06 - 09:41 AM Bassicly there are two types of string, flat wound and round wound. Flat wound strings have a smooth sound like a standup bass and round wound have a noticably lounder, brighter tone. Perhaps someone who plays an acoustic bass guitar can discuss strings from different vendors. - Phil |
Subject: RE: Best strings for acoustic bass guitar From: Les in Chorlton Date: 17 Nov 06 - 09:51 AM I rate Elixer on Mandola and Guitar but acoustic bass is a bit different |
Subject: RE: Best strings for acoustic bass guitar From: GUEST,Mark Addison Date: 17 Nov 06 - 11:06 AM I have a John Levoi acoustic bass, which is as good an instrument as I've seen. Elixir last a long time, but I've found Elite Phosphor Bronze best value for sustained attack, and cost about £15 a set. I struck up with this bass/strings in a festival session this summer, and received the comment from the other side of the room..."God, I thought someone had started up on a piano" |
Subject: RE: Best strings for acoustic bass guitar From: Pete_Standing Date: 17 Nov 06 - 11:31 AM Take them off and soak and shake them in jar of Meths. Put them back on. Smile at the difference. I've done this for years with bass strings (both acoustic and electric) because they seem to be strong enough to survive the trauma. Strings for guitar and bouzouki I just change. |
Subject: RE: Best strings for acoustic bass guitar From: Les from Hull Date: 17 Nov 06 - 11:52 AM These are the ones I prefer on my Ovation bass. They are phosphor bronze on a nylon core and quite the best I've played. I'm only on my first set so I can't tell you how long they last, but they haven't really deteriorated from the day I put them on and I'm playing a lot more bass these days. Thomasik-Infeld |
