I told my friend that Mudcatters would know the name of a movie she is trying to remember. Here's what she told me about it:

A group of about five people have come to a castle (in real life, it is a well-known castle, maybe in the Bay of Fundy?) where they get into some discussions about metaphysics. When the tide comes in, the castle becomes an island. When the tide goes out, which takes about twleve hours, it is connected to the mainland and teh road to it is passable once again.

Ring any bells? Hope someone can help. Thanks!

It sounds like it might be about Holy Island, Lindisfarne. There've been a couple of movies set there which I haven't seen. One was by Polanski, called Cul de Sac, and there was one by some defunct pop group (not Lindisfarne.).

Thanks, McGrath, but that doesn't sound like the film she described, though I had thought of Lindisfarne, too. I spoke to her, again, and she said she was fairly certain it had "water" in the title. She thought one of the actors was San Waterson, but couldn't find a likely one in his filmography. Then she thought it might be Daniel J. Travanti, but in a quick search on google, I couldn't find any likely films of his, either.

Surely one of the Mudcatters will know this one?:-)

Thanks, again,

kat

Not that I know of, Foolestroupe. I'll ask her, though.

Alice, thanks! I'd forgotten all about that site. Searching on any title with "water" in it, is rather daunting, there are a lot. I will send her an email and let her do the *work*...maybe seeing some of the titles will jog her memory. I had no idea there were so many.:-)

The Bay of Fundy, I doubt it. St. Michaels off Cornwall perhaps.

Burgh Island in Devon has the submerged causeway bit, but the main building is 1930s. Could the film-makers have used a different castle and cut shots from castle to island and back?

Might the "castle" surrounded by water be Mont St. Michel off the coast of Normandy?

From imdb.com:

Mindwalk (1990): "A US politician (Sam Waterston) visits his poet friend (John Heard) in Mont. St. Michael, France. While walking through the medeival island discussing their philosophies of life they happen upon Sonja (Liv Ullman), a scientist in recluse, who joins in their conversation. The two men listen to the ideas of this brilliant woman and discuss how her ideas can work in their own politician and poet lives."

Seems to fit the clues above...
