Subject: RE: BS: Welcome back once more Mudcat From: Big Mick Date: 27 Nov 06 - 06:17 PM It's as I mentioned over on The Annexe. If you old timers would think back, you would remember that this seems to have a habit of happening around Thanksgiving (think Deer Camp all you transplanted Midwestern USA members). This young man named Max has the sheer audacity to think he can just take off, enjoy the woods and family over a holiday weekend with no thought whatsoever to the loonies all over this globe that want to take up his time. The nerve of the guy (says Mick with tongue planted firmly in cheek). Glad you had a good weekend, Max. Did you bother to hunt, or just enjoy the woods? Mick |

Subject: RE: BS: Welcome back once more Mudcat From: GUEST, Ebbie Date: 27 Nov 06 - 08:05 PM Kat, 50,000 plus words in a MONTH? That's a pile of words. When I do 500 words a day, that's a pretty big day. I don't suppose you piled them up at random? *g* |

Subject: RE: BS: Welcome back once more Mudcat From: frogprince Date: 27 Nov 06 - 08:40 PM "a bunch of monkeys with typewriters" But now parts of the book are exact duplications of entries in the Encyclopedia Brittanica; the theory was correct; sit enough monkeys at typewriters, and, sooner or later, it was bound to happen! |
Subject: RE: BS: Welcome back once more Mudcat From: katlaughing Date: 27 Nov 06 - 09:58 PM LMAO...you lot are too much! I am amazed myself, Ebbie. Found out I do better with a deadline; a graph showing my daily output is really motivating; I can shut off my Inner Editor; and, I really CAN write only when I have a free moment. (I used to think it had to be in the morning - my "productive time")Over 70,000 people signed up for it. At last count 2400 of us actually finished, but the final count isn't until after midnight on the 30th. You should think about it for next November: NaNoWriMo. Start your plots now! I first learned about it from hesperis. CapriUni is closing in on her 50,000, too and was a winner last year, too, if I remember rightly. |

Mac OS X Spyware Sample Spotted An F-Secure spokesman said: "This is easier to do than with Windows. After all, it's a Mac." Subject: RE: BS: Welcome back once more Mudcat From: JohnInKansas Date: 28 Nov 06 - 08:32 PM But Amos - At least the malware writers have started to notice the Macs now!!! Apple released 12 patches for OS-X about a month ago. As far as I could tell, they were pretty much the same as ones Windows was patching a year or so ago. Some buffer overrun vulnerabilities and such were identified (vaguely). But Apple hasn't released any descriptions of what they decided to patch, since they want people to keep thinking they're invulnerable. You're safe if nobody notices you. You should be pushing the notion that only "starving artists" use Macs, so the criminals won't start trying to mug ya'. John |
Subject: RE: BS: Welcome back once more Mudcat From: Amos Date: 28 Nov 06 - 08:53 PM LOL!!! Funny notion when you look at the price tahs on the eye-candy festooning any Mac store.... But still, I love 'em, and I'll not deny 'em, I'll take 'em with me wherever I go.... A |

Subject: RE: BS: Welcome back once more Mudcat From: Donuel Date: 25 Nov 19 - 04:59 PM CT, thank you for the splendid Thanksgiving Birthday dinner. Many wonderful things were said about you the man, husband and father. I believe it was my missed opportunity to honor you as the Maestro. I have known a half dozen or so composer conductors from orchestras and pits. I have been in the presence of Leonard Bernstein and John Williams but never interacted. There are some who are generals and the musicians are their foot soldiers, but only the best have your humility and humble imprimatur. I believe everyone has a spark of genius but there are some like yourself whose genius is more high voltage. There are composer, performer conductors who possess extraordinary talent and there are some who are possessed by it. You seem to be the former. You are only 70. Composer John Williams is 91 this year and still borrows from Holst. You have kept your feet on the ground while keeping your head in heaven in the East and West. Your remarkable accomplishments and genres of music are to many to mention. Your grand opera to consecrate the new opera house in Taiwan and your concertos alone, will make you musically immortal. Even how you handled the nuts and bolts of affording performances is powerful, like your visit with George Soros while he picked your brains. Maestro Chen, I remind you that viewing far horizons are important ! It is always possible that the past can be seen as good practice for what is to come. Be confident that we are not forgetting, and we are anticipating the music that is yearning to be created by you, a masterful servant of art, some of which you say comes from God. If so, go God go. Your friend, Donuel. |
