Subject: Copper Songs Sung From: RTim Date: 06 Jan 07 - 03:03 PM AS part of the celebration of my 60th birthday this week - at my party we all sang songs from the Copper Family Song Book - It was a great evening and when I consider that most of those there (in Woods Hole, USA) did not really know the songs (but most can read music), it proved a great success. We may make it an annual event. You should try it sometime. Tim Radford |
Subject: RE: Copper Songs Sung From: Bill D Date: 06 Jan 07 - 03:50 PM *smile*...we did at the FSGW Getaway a couple of months ago...with some folks leading it who had known the Coppers personally (and others who had met them). It was, as you say, a great success. The Copper repertoire is wondeful and ought to be sung as often as possible. |

Best - Tim |

Subject: RE: Copper Songs Sung From: RTim Date: 06 Jan 07 - 11:25 PM Thank you Barry Finn. Sorry no song circle here unfortunately. I tried a song and supper club a couple of years ago but the venue didn't want us back the 2nd year, and I got dispondant and can't find another good venue. Maybe sometime again if the right venue becomes available. Tim Radford |
Subject: RE: Copper Songs Sung From: Desert Dancer Date: 07 Jan 07 - 01:19 AM My post earlier dissolved into the ether. :-( The Copper Family Songbook is also available in the U.S. from www.cdss.org; likely from Camsco as well. ~ Becky in Tucson |
Subject: RE: Copper Songs Sung From: GUEST,Jon Dudley Date: 07 Jan 07 - 04:05 AM We're so pleased that Bob's birthday has not passed unremembered. For our part it was a day of reflection and lots of happy memories. Meanwhile we plan for the centenerary! By the way you should be able to buy The Copper Family Songbook from John Howson at Veteran. Subject: RE: Copper Songs Sung From: MartinRyan Date: 07 Jan 07 - 05:12 AM In recednt years, I've made a habit of re-reading "A Song for Every Season" around Christmas/New Year. Almost forgot, this year - thanks for the reminder! Regards |
Subject: RE: Copper Songs Sung From: GUEST,Shimrod Date: 07 Jan 07 - 06:14 AM I'd like to recommend the CD 'Come Write Me Down: Early Recordings of the Copper family of Rottingdean' Topic TSCD534, 2001. I haven't checked but I would guess that this is still readily available from the Topic website (?) As the title suggests this CD contains some excellent early recordings, made in the 1950s and 60s, by the likes of Peter Kennedy, Seamus Ennis et. al. It also comes with two booklets of notes by such luminaries as Reg Hall, Vic Gammon and Steve Roud - these notes alone are worth the price of the CD - fascinating stuff! |
Subject: RE: Copper Songs Sung From: Cats Date: 07 Jan 07 - 10:22 AM Hi Tim, I'm sure you don't look a day older than last time I saw you. albeit through a haze in Padstow. Happy Birthday. Jon Heslop |
Subject: RE: Copper Songs Sung From: JohnB Date: 07 Jan 07 - 10:32 PM The CD "Come Write Me Down" is great and the included books are equal to the CD. JohnB |
