Lyr/Tune Req: By Blood & Marriage (The Gaping Maw)

Subject: By Blood and Marriage (The Gaping Maw)
From: grimes@ellora.com

Hello...

We're looking for lyrics (and any available music notes) to go with the Subj: album (actually a tape ;-)

Some of these songs are playing in my head I've listened to them so much! Of course, if they've been officially published, we'd be happy to purchase them, too.

Side 1: Mhorag S'Na horo Gheallaidh
The Golden Apples of the Sun
BiodhOrm Anocht
Fear an Duin-Mhoir
S'ionmadh Rud a Chunniac Mi
Rhynie
Castle Terrace
Twa Corbies

Side 2: An Bothan a Bha'ig Fionnghuala
Here I Am Amongst You
Westron Wind / The Bay of Biscay
Sorry the Day I Was Married
Se Ne Bado Ket Atao
Parcel of Rogues

Any help (pointers) you might provide would be appreciated!

..m.

You must be from the Chicago area. GM play very rarely these days as two live in Galena and two in Evanston? I, too, have their album and I can help you with some of the English songs but the gaelic ones are beyond me. Parcel of Rogues is by Robert Burns and may be on DT. The Twa Corbies (two ravens) was collected by Child and should also be there. I'll have to dig out the tape to give you further info.

Both Parcel of Rogues and Twa Corbies are in the Digital Tradition Database. I don't speak Gaelic, but if you search for the keyword @Gaelic, you may find some of the others.

I have that tape, too. "Sorry the day I was married" played in my head in relief the last time I broke up. (as in: it could have been worse; I could have needed a divorce.)

great job on "Parcel of Rogues"

Always was sorry the Maws didn't get a second recording out. I still see Brighid and Patrick when they have house sessions. Jim makes it out from Galena from time to time.

To make it simpler, I've made links to most of the titles requested. The only ones I can't find are Biodh Orm Anocht (though there was a Lyr Req for it.) or Rhynie Castle Terrace.

Thought I'd revive this thread. Brighid Malone just sent me a cdr of By Blood and Marriage that they have re-mastered and re-released. The recording also has quite a few bonus tracks that were not on the original cassette. It's interesting that they sold out the first run of the cds. There's also a fan page on facebook for people still interested. I also found a nine minute video of them on youtube. It's amazing that there are still rabid fans out there, when the maws have not performed in such a long time.
