08 Aug 24 - 06:53 AM (#4206700) Subject: Obit: Muppet From: Raggytash I have just heard the news that Muppet died on Wednesday night whilst performing at the Fox at Shipley. I can hardly believe this, I have been fortunate enough to have known Muppet for decades, walked with him, drank with him, sang and laughed with him time and time again. Never heard him say a bad word about anybody, the world and Whitby in particular will be a sadder place without him. Rest in peace Muppet my old friend. Thanks for the many times we spent together. |

Here he was in April 2024 www.facebook.com/groups/800464877317431/posts/1150581528972429/ from his daughter on The Fox's Facebook page Thank you all for being there with my dad as he took his last breath. This is how he would have wanted to leave this world, performing to his fans. Michael Pascal, known to his friends as Muppett, was performing at The Fox in Shipley when he had a heart attack on Wednesday evening. A post on the pub's Facebook page said it would remain closed on Thursday in his honour. Mr Pascal, 64, worked as a community development worker at Manningham-based charity CNet, which paid tribute to their "friend and colleague". A statement from the charity said: "To all who knew and loved him, you will be comforted to know that he passed away doing what he loves best, singing on stage at an open mic session during which he suffered a fatal heart attack. "A true Bradfordian whose enigmatic, quirky personality and love of people will always be remembered." Mr Pascal, from Thorpe Edge, Bradford, ran several community walking groups as part of his work for CNet, and had produced a booklet - called Muppett's Rambles - with details of some of his walks. These included details on local history as well as information on which plants could be foraged along the way. The pub's post added: "Today we are heartbroken to announce, that last night while performing at the Wednesday open mic, a much-loved customer, character, poet, performer and friend to many passed away in The Fox." Sincerely, Gargoyle What a striking character ... almost from a page by Dickens. |

He was a well loved Bradfordian who carried his love of folk music to many folks throughout the area. I hope you will view the posted videos. I have included his name in the "Memoriam" thread and send my condolences to all his friends and family. RIP Muppett |

I thought that was another lovely tribute. |

The best thing is for me to quote in full the newsletter I received from a close friend of Muppett's from the Dales community in which Muppett was so involved over the years, and who has asked for this information to be passed on. QUOTE REMEMBERING MUPPETT Saturday 14 th September, 4pm till late, Guiseley Dear All, I met Matt Palmer, Michael Pascal’s/Muppett’s stepson in Otley yesterday evening. Matt will be known to many of us as a member of Keeper’s Wood one of the groups who entertained us at one or more of Muppett’s amazing fund raising events in Guiseley and also an occasional attendee (with his family) at the Buck Inn Sessions. Matt is our best contact with Muppett’s immediate family including his partner Ann (Matt’s mum) , who we are very much hoping will be seen back on DalesBus as soon as feels able to. Matt has explained that the family, respecting Muppett’s wishes, have decided that there will be no formal funeral following his private cremation, but it is planned to have a formal Wake event, to which all his friends are invited. This will take place, very fittingly, upstairs at Coopers Bar in Guiseley, where many of Muppett’s DalesBus fund raising events were held, almost opposite Morrisons, just 7 minutes’ walk from Guiseley rail station, on Saturday 14 th September from 4pm until late. Please keep the date free in your diary 2 Many of Muppett’s friends and colleagues will be performing probably from all over the West Riding, in tribute, but with an emphasis on celebrating all that Muppett was and all he contributed in a warm and positive way to the lives of so many people . It is hoped that some refreshments can be provided and of course hot meals and drinks will be available at the bar. No need to book, just turn up and join in, but come early if you want to get a seat. There will be no charge but a collection will be made for one of the causes that were near to Muppett’s heart – as the family will decide. Matt and I also decided that it would be wonderful to have a walk dedicated in Muppett’s name – the Muppett Way. Two possible favourite walks of Muppett and Ann in Upper Wharfedale have been suggested by Ann which Matt and I are looking at, with a view to having not only a celebration walk along whatever route is selected – possibly next Spring - but also, if we can some form of booklet produced, to both describe the selected route and also to summarise some of Muppett’s many achievements as a campaigner, activist in so many worthwhile causes, singer-songwriter and amazing human being. We will also look at having some more permanent memorial – whether plaque or bench – if permission can be granted and funds duly raised. If you want to contact Matt and the Palmer family Matt’s email is mattyopalmer@gmail.com, or mobile for texts +44 7984 59381 and address for any cards or written correspondence: 30 Kineholme Drive, Otley, LS21 3LX. I’ll keep everyone informed on further developments on the Wake, memorial walk and anything else that is planned. Please feel free to pass this information to any groups or individuals who also might be interested in paying tribute to our dear and already much missed friend and colleague. Best regards, Colin 28/82024 UNQUOTE I'll pass on any information I receive regarding any of the future events mentioned above. Best wishes at this sad time, Tony Charnock Topic Folk Club |
