27 Jun 01 - 04:43 PM (#493334) Subject: An Carraige Baine From: mooman A friend and I are looking for the lyrics of a song sung by Len Graham on his "Do Me Justice" CD. The majority of the words are in English with one verse or chorus in Irish. We've been having a liitle difficulty in picking out a few lines and any help would be much appreciated. I've tried the DigiTrad but it doesn't seem to be there unless perhaps under a different name. Many thanks in advance, mooman and Alison |

Did you need the words, or did you need a translation of the Irish? The title could be "BY THE BANK OF THE WHITE ROCK". There are many versions. Brían |

I've tried the digitad and forum search and have learned that there are at least 4 versions of this song. I have the words to the Munster version but it is the Ulster version Len Graham sings that we'd really like and I can't find that version anywhere. Once again, Many thanks mooman (and Alison) |

I would rather than all Ireland Recorded by Len Graham on Do Me Justice Claddagh Records 1983. He says: I first heard a fragment of this macaronic song from Bríd Mac Donnchadha of Feenish Island, Connemara, whose singing was recorded by Séamus Ennis in 1954. Another version appears in 'Ceol Tíre' no 16 (1980). I have borrowed from both. NK |
28 Jun 01 - 02:32 AM (#493702) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: An Carraige Baine From: GUEST,chrisj There's a fine version of 'Ar Bhrúach na Carraige Báine' by Seamas Begley on his CD with the guitarist Steve Cooney (so influential in Irish music), unfortunately I can't put my hands on my copy right now and can't remember the title. It is several yrs old and they were a great combination at that time but have since parted. |

And yes, Brían, I now consider myself an expert on the several ways of creating fadas and other accents, thanks to help from many good people at the Mudcat Café. Makes posting lyrics in Irish a longer job though, to do it properly). Noreen |
