There have been two requests for lyrics to this song, way back in 1998 & 1999 - I wonder if I will have any luck!!
By the way "Goats Don't Shave" is the band
"Evictions" is the song title from their album "Rusty Razor"

Seems to me this song comes from the 19th century evictions of tenant farmers. It's not clear to me whether this is from the New York Hudson River Valley rent/eviction battles of the 1800's, the enclosure evictions in England, or the eviction of Irish tenant farmers ("hills and mountains" in Ireland?). "Derryveagh" would appear to be Irish.

It's a very interesting fragment.

I have the song on CD but couldn't quite get all the lyrics. I think I have I have it sussed now.
Thanks GUEST I did find the incomplete song on Ultimate-Guitar.Com but was struggling with a few words.
CHARLEY - The song is about THE DERRYVEAGH EVICTIONS of 1861 and John George Adair's fortune buying up of estates bankrupt after the Irish potato famine in Donegal.

It's an excellent song we are hoping to perform it soon!!!

No need for a new thread, which only confuses the issue. Just change the subject line from Lyr Req to Lyr Add as in this post (details in site FAQ). It may never make it into the DT (less modern, in copyright material being added nowadays, I think), but that doesn't matter as the Forum is archived and fully searchable. In no time, both threads will show up in a Google search.

Oh No!! Where's the full version of the song gone that I posted last night!!! I should have looked at FAQ and kept it in this post. I must admit I didn't look beforehand I assumed incorrectly a new thread should be made. I think it was only 2 thread combined. I am at work at the moment. Effsee - Thanks for that. I also heard "the minions" but my mate and fellow band member was convinced it was "dominions". "Minions" makes sense to me. Thanks for V2 correction too. I am doing percussion and harmony vocals for chorus only any way. What and excellent song !! Thanks again !

Goats dont shave are a band from donegal and the song evictions is about the irish farmers who were shifted from derryveagh when the scotsman john O'Dare bought the land and evicted them all.

Goats Don't Shave were from Dungloe in County Donegal and packed up playing together in the mid-1990s. The owner of the Glenveagh estate who authorised the evictions was George Adair (not O'Dare - unless I'm missing a UDA/UFF joke).
