Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat hugs requested: 13-yr-old with leukemia From: MBSLynne Date: 30 Sep 09 - 05:22 PM Thanks again guys. I'm not sure if Shady has read all this yet. She's going to copy it into an e-mail to Alicia since they can't visit for a month now. I wasn't sure that sending her the link was necessarily a good idea. The stall/auction idea is a good one and I'll put it to Shades. There are aslso posibilities in the hat idea...perhaps we could build it up to a hat fashion show to raise money? Love Lynne |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat hugs requested: 13-yr-old with leukemia From: GUEST,Alex Miller Date: 25 Oct 09 - 05:09 AM All the best to Alicia and her family. I lost my youngest son, Grant, to this disease just over three years ago. He had been diagnosed with leukaemia at age 12. It was Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL), that time round, and chemotherapy lasted for two + years. Three years later on it was AML. The doctors here said there was a 75% chance of complete recovery at his age. (The older you are the lower the chances for a complete cure, apparently) Unfortunately, at 16 plus, he turned out to be in the "25%" bracket. I pray there will be a better outcome for Alicia. Alex |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat hugs requested: 13-yr-old with leuk From: VirginiaTam Date: 25 Oct 09 - 05:28 AM So sorry for your loss guest Alex. There is a handful of us on this forum who have lost children. However, we try to keep "positive" thoughts flowing in these threads, especially as they may be viewed by the person (and family) to which they are dedicated. If you have an interest in music, please visit above the BS section and join the forum. You might make some friends, and get comfort in both above and below the line discussions. Maybe a moderator will, for Alica's sake, remove the post from guest_Alex and even this post with appropriate explanation? |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat hugs requested: 13-yr-old with leukemia From: MBSLynne Date: 25 Oct 09 - 06:47 AM Oh Alex, I'm so sorry. I don't know if I would cope with the loss of a child, but I guess you have no real choice. Alicia has not yet read this thread. I'm wondering if I should perhaps copy and paste most of the messages so Shady can print them off and show them to her next week when she is briefly out of hospital. There was a number of other messages which, while sympathetic, I think may be tactless to show her at this point. If I do it that way people can say what they feel they need to and I can edit them if I think it necessary. Love Lynne |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat hugs requested: 13-yr-old with leukemia From: MBSLynne Date: 29 Oct 09 - 11:21 AM For those who wanted to be updated on this, Alicia came out of hospital for a week yesterday after her first batch of chemo. She has no hair and may not leave the house. The girls don't yet know if they will be allowed to visit her or not. The good news is that, before leaving hospital she had her bone-marrow tested and there is, at present, no sign of the leukemia. The first round score is: Alicia 1 leukemia 0 Next week she will go back in for the next blast of chemo. Love Lynne |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat hugs requested: 13-yr-old with leukemia From: MBSLynne Date: 06 Nov 09 - 09:17 AM Yep...biggest blessing there is too, closely followed by good friends. What Shady didn't mention is that they have decided to give Alicia a figure skating lesson with some of the money, since it's something she's always wanted to do. The rest will go to leukemia research. Alicia is having a party on Saturday, then goes back into hospital on Sunday so here's hoping for the next leg of the treatment! Love Lynne |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat hugs requested: 13-yr-old with leukemia From: MBSLynne Date: 19 Nov 09 - 07:49 AM There was a piece in our local paper this week. One of the little group of friends got in touch with Great Ormond Street hospital and they helped her to arrange a sponsored bike ride. (Shady couldn't participate because, shamefully, she can't ride a bike) A lot of kids turned out for it and altogether they raised £1,100. With other things they all have planned, they will probably end up raising over £2,000. Alicia has said that she doesn't want the figure skating lesson they were going to give her with the first bit of the money and that it should all go to charity. She feels she owes so much to various charities. She will decide which the money will go to. The situation may be making them grow up rather quickly but it seems to be doing it in a good way! Everything positive so far, so here's hoping it all continues so Love Lynne |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat hugs requested: 13-yr-old with leuk From: VirginiaTam Date: 11 Dec 09 - 02:20 PM Maybe they all got distracted by the boxes of fairy wings and craft things I sent to the girls. It is close to Christmas, maybe Lynne is wrapped up in school and/or church programmes, shopping and parties. They do lots of holiday parties here in UK. Work, family, friends. It seems endless. BTW Lynne... more probably headdresses and fairies coming after Christmas. My daughter is bringing them back to me from the US when she visits. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat hugs requested: 13-yr-old with leukemia From: MBSLynne Date: 01 Mar 10 - 03:30 PM So sorry guys! I hardly ever go on Mudcat anymore and there wasn't really anything to report so I didn't bother. Now there is. Alicia has just left hospital with the all clear (so far). Obviously she's not completely out of the woods yet but It's all very positive and hopeful. I think it is a little earlier than was first said as well, so that's got to be good. She's not back at school yet but will be returning after the Easter holidays. The girls have finally managed to collect almost all of the money that was pledged to them for their sponsored silence and have handed it in to school. School will then write out a cheque to the charity of Alicia's choice. When I hear what the total was I will let you know and also tell you what charity it will be going to. Thanks so much to those who sent money to swell the fund. I'm sure all the thoughts, prayers and wishes and general good energy being sent by Mudcatters must have helped this happy outcome. Don't stop yet! Thanks again guys and sorry I was silent for so long. Love Lynne |
