Subject: 'Fiddler's Green' composer USA tour From: GUEST,Pete Sumner Date: 26 Mar 04 - 10:53 PM Greetings John Conolly and Pete Sumner will be doing a "Farewell Tour" in October 2004... We've never done a farewell tour before...GULP... We're hoping to get in touch with as many folks on the West Coast as we can... We may get further afield...depends on who offers what and where etc... The highlight will be a performance on the "Balclutha" at Hyde Street Pier, San Francisco on Saturday evening 23rd October...blame Chanteyranger.... House concerts are always good crack...so if anyone out there wishes to put something together we'd be glad to send some promo stuff and other lies... John lives in Cleethorpes, a small picturesque fishing village, nestling on the banks of the River Humber in Northern England : ) .....He's looking forward to coming over and warming his bones with the warmth of your welcome...I know you Madcatters know of his work....I'm glad to report that he has "new product" in the form of two new CD's...a solo job produced by Robin Garside and a re-issue of the acclaimed LP "The Northern Trawl"....as well as our joint effort "Trawlertown" made just before I left the UK in 1998... If nobody minds I'll put my Email address in this thing...petersumner@sbcglobal.net I know we'll have a limited number of days available due to John's schedule... So please Email or post comments to this thread ...if they're printable.. Cheers Pete Sumner Cheers Pete Sumner |

Subject: RE: 'Fiddler's Green' composer USA tour From: GUEST Date: 29 Mar 04 - 07:17 AM Its the aegir Pete - a tidal bore up the Trent which comes as far as Giansborough on a good day. We do indeed have some wonderful buildings, namely Gainsborough Old Hall, The Trinity Arts Centre and the Eight Jolly Brewers all of which are used by the Gainsborough Folk Festival. You should ask John about the Eight Jolly Brewers! |

Subject: RE: 'Fiddler's Green' composer USA tour From: radriano Date: 29 Mar 04 - 04:47 PM Hello Pete. I'm going to send you some contact info for some of our local radio programs here in northern California that feature folk music. A radio interview/performance is called for here, I think, and KALW, one of the public radio stations, has been doing that sort of thing recently. Pete, the last time you and John were over here you did a performance at the Adelphian Center for the Arts in Alameda. I'll also send you their current info. Richard A. |

Subject: RE: 'Fiddler's Green' composer USA tour From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 30 Mar 04 - 05:15 AM My first folk club experience was at the Grimsby folk song club as run by John, Bill Meek etc. As a young lad of 18 (in 1964 and on to 1969) they gave me a taste of every kind of folk music. This was pre Fiddler's Green but john had composed the Hewitt's Ale song a number on which I am still word perfect for some strange reason. A great club where, as guests, I saw so many stalwarts of then scene and also loads of up and coming faces, many of whom are still around. Hope the tour goes well Roger |

Subject: RE: 'Fiddler's Green' composer USA tour From: GUEST,Guest - John Conolly Date: 31 Mar 04 - 07:00 AM Hello everybody - as a new arrival in the wonderful world of the Internet in general and Mudcatters in particular,I've just been catching up on some of the threads relating to me and my songs - and thanks to all of you who have had some kind words to say about both ! I'm looking forward to my trip to California to sing with my old buddy Pete Sumner again - by the way,Pete was a little premature in describing this as a "Farewell Tour" - in case anybody out there was thinking of booking me,I plan to be available for a few years yet (of course,it could develop into a VERY LONG Farewell Tour ...) The new CD Pete mentioned has now escaped from captivity - it's called "Ranter's Wharf" and features 19 songs, many of which are recent compositions and previously unrecorded. It will be available worldwide shortly via the excellent "Chantey Cabin" website - and,of course from me and Pete on tour ! See you in Sunny California (well it makes a change from Cleethorpes...) John. |

I now assume that "John Conolly" is the correct spelling. Be so advised! Cheerily, Charley Noble |
