Check out "In Old Pod Auger Times" in the DT. I can't seem to get to it tonight to make sure of the reference, but the version we sing, which was collected by Helen Hartness Flanders in Vermont, refers to cider in the final verse.
Folks didn't have delirium tremens Nor perpetrate horrible crimes, For the cider was good and the rum was pure In old pod auger times.
It's on an LP we made donkey's years ago which is now available only as a custom cassette from Folk-Legacy. (We, by the way, refers to me and my wife Caroline.)
