The song covers the "harvest" or "Hairst" held at Pitgair , a location in Gamrie Banffshire. I believe it was written by a local clergyman possibly from Alvah near Banff Andrew Kindness was my Great Great Grandfather and his wife was Annie Scott. Andrew died at Midhill of Pitgair in 1900 The song is a bothy ballad and retells of an era when there was no farm machinery and the crofters had to help one another in some of the major tasks Nicol Kindness
