Back in NYC we celebrated "Good Garbage Day". Honest. Once every two weeks there would be a special pick up of furniture and large items. I have an antique leather hat box, a variety of tables and books - all good garbage. A friend found a silver Tiffany picture frame, Godey prints. Amazing. the best was a little girl who saw an old book in someone's trash. It was a 17th century history book which claimed that Columbus discovered America in 1491. Made the front page of the Daily News. Garbage day in Maine is a disappointment. Nobody throws out anything.
