I have more hats than fingers & toes. Likely more hats than brains. That's *hats*, as in "with a brim," preferably broad, to keep the weather off. Them little city hats with one-inch brims they wear to dash across the sidewalk from the car to the door are as pathetic and useless as toy poodles.

Baseball caps are not hats. Especially when worn backwards. Neither are knit caps.

A real hat is a functional garment that will keep the sun out of your eyes, and the wind and sleet out of your ears. And it will turn when you turn your head, unlike a hood.

And a hat is almost as good as a mask for changing your appearance and state of mind.
