My grandfather wore a hat every day and I can't recall ever seeing him without one. I always thought it was a rather odd especially during the summer. When young I never wore a hat and spent a great deal of time in the sun. During the past couple of years I've had a dermatologists filet my nose and more recently (about two weeks ago) a chunk of my ear. I have recently begun to appreciate my grandfathers wisdom. Whenever I'm outside I wear a hat, long sleeve shirts, and if possible gloves. My favorite hat is the Tilley as they are especially good for sailing. Besides withstanding the elephant test they also float, have straps to keep them on your head when the wind is up, and they have a life time warranty. A bit pricey but well worth the money. Cap't Bob
