My father grew up in the depression, in Five Dock an inner city working class suburb on Sydney harbour & if he & his mates were lucky enough to find a sheet of roofing iron in summer, they would use a jam tin lid to scrape tar off the road to caulk it & go 'sailing' in Hen & Chicken Bay. One day they were circled by a shark, but even tho it scared them, it didn't stop them going in the water and they certainly didn't tell their parents. sandra
