In ancient mesopotamia, an itchy bum was a sign that a person had made a bad choice in love. It meant they had walked away from their destiny and soul mate. The solution to this problem was to rub the offending spot with lemon juic, and then ask the Moon to shine some understanding down, to help heal and reconcile. Hence the term "mooning".
