What's the problem with using hydrogen as a fuel in an internal combustion engine? We've got propane and LPG powered engines; what's so complicated about using hydrogen as a fuel? And if the fuel tank leaks (unlike carbon based fuels) the hydrogen is lighter than air so will float off into the atmosphere. The only problem would be in unventilated storage areas. As for the energy needed to produce the hydrogen, why not use hydro-electric power plants? Natural gas and other fuel gases are transported around in pipes from huge gas mains to the small bore pipes in your house and are these any less likely to explode than hydrogen. I don't know too much about fuel cells and how efficient and environmentally friendly they are but: HYDROGEN IS THE ANSWER!!
