G'day You Lot, It's just magic how the seeds planted on a piece of paper in England in 1998 have borne fruit in America and around the place through the Mudcat pipeline. Sorry, folks, I'm not an active mudcatter- a spiritual failing on my part I guess, but I never cease to be awed at its magic. In brief, Bring out the banners resulted from a commission I was given for an exibition of trade - union banners in Sydney. As the old union songs were usually buit on old hymn tunes, I borrowed one, Oxford by John Goss, and wrote in a way that had the feel of old trade-union writing. The tune has evolved a bit under my singing and I've heard it sung to Goss's form from the Methodist Hymn Book- it sounds a bit different. No doubt Danny has stamped his mighty footprint on it in his own way too. Good luck and good health to the electronic folk-process. Jack Halyard.
