I just heard it and saw the video for the first time yesterday and went here to see what your reactions might be - god!!! Have you checked the fRoots board btw? It's mainly negative about that song... I have to say that I like it and that I agree -once again- with harpmolly on the subject. Kate is still Kate, the way she sings and even in the video- it's all natural, no acting (I feared that they would pretend to be in love with each other or something!), just a little coffee-stirring and busking. I love that the director let her actually play guitar in the video and Ronan doesn't play anything - she's a real musician and that comes across... It's in no way world-changing, but it isn't bad musically. And their voices really blend well, something that IMHO seldom happend with the male singers she chose for her records - famous folk singers though they are ;-) The best duet with a male singer was with Davy Steele on Hourglass. I really don't like the duets on Sleepless, all of them, tough I like the singers. I know that a lot of people seem to like the one with Roddy Woomble, but I think their voices don't complement each other very well. I know I'm drifting apart from the subject but there never was a better combination than singing with Eddi Reader on Little Lights!! What I really would like to hear is a duet with Alison Krauss!!! Back to the subject: If I had never come across KR so far and then heard and saw her with Ronan Keating, I would instantly go to iTunes or something and listen to some of her own songs. And have you seen the live clips from the "Princes Trust" concert? She gets extra applause during the song, and that doesn't sound like ten folkies cheering 'Hi Kate'! So I think it's good that she did it, and even better that she did it her way and I'm really curious where it will take her. She is very very clever, business-wise, and I think she will get a lot out of that for her own career.
