Jim - I'm English but my father and the five generations before him were Newfoundlanders. I can do a pretty good Newfoundland accent, though - being from Dorset helps! I'm also a Canadianist and was Editor of the British Journal of Canadian Studies for four years.

I actually sang Glencoe a couple of weeks ago, in a pub's open mic session. I think the basic chord sequence (in the verse) appeals to non-folkies.
