It's always a shock to "children of the revival" that farmers tend to be conservative. This tends to be true throughout Europe & North America (and the rest of the world 'far as I know.) I believe the peasants were the last to be dragged into the Soviet system and many Chinese peasants have still not been reeducated. Possibly it has to do with the precarious economic life they lead and the devil you know is better...

Many of the great US source banjo pickers had little to talk about with Pete Seeger besides how to tune the thing or what fingering it was.
