I remember very little although the "it" in question may have been a brown paper parcel - I'm really not too sure.The whole thing may simply have been about the postman trying to make a delivery.
I heard it at a folk club in Ironbridge, Shropshire, UK and have lived with this one verse ever since.I do remember the tune but that's no help to me.
