Would it be all right if I took a crack at posting
an attempted translation of what you wrote?

I'm away at school, so I rarely get the opportunity
to hear or read Icelandic, and as I said, I am horrible
at it. My older siblings can all speak it, but my father
got sick when my brother and I were younger, and
would hardly speak at all, let alone teach us Icelandic.
So, I don't want to impose myself upon you, but would
you mind correcting me if I were to post an attempt
at translating?
