Dave Illingworth Lyr Req: The first two lines of Blues My Naughty (12) RE: Lyr Req: The first two lines of Blues My Naughty 06 Jun 09

Yes indeed, the CLancy Hayes/Bob Scobey recording is wonderful and a very old favourite of mine.
That stop-time chorus is not on the sheet music I have.
Was it a later addition ?
The Chinese whispers effect often governs what one ends up singing, so for years I have been singing:-

There are blues you get from swimmin', and you see a lot of women, And you haven't got a bathing suit yourself.
You are blues you give the vicar and he's looking for some liquor,
And he finds 20 bottles on your shelf.
There a blues you get sittin in the dock.
And you wonder if the boat is going to rock.
There are blues you get sittin' in a tax-cab a-frettin',
And you wonder if the meter's goin' to pop.
There are blues you get from tryin',
To save your Uncle Bill from dyin',
And he afterwards forgets you in his will.
There are blues you give your missus, with no more kisses,
When a chorus-girl shouts "Hi Bill".
etc.

As with many songs, you start off singing them wrong, and then stick with it !   Ain't that the folk process ?
