I've read the Christy Moore songbook. In it Christy said that people wonder what his song 'Ride On' is about but Jimmy MacCarthy keeps that to himself. This makes sense because Jimmy thinks it is better if a person has their own interpretation of his songs because this is much more important than knowing what the true meaning of the song is.
