KP, that was a very perceptive post about SoH. I've never really 'got them' before but you have hit the nail on the head by pinpointing them as English almost-alt-country. Non-folk music for rural white folks. To be honest, their music still doesn't really flaot my boat, but I now have a slot to put them in which makes sense & which helps to explain their appeal.
