No question that bad diet makes it worse, and so I've learned to be very careful about food over the years. MSG is a particular danger(though mg is great;-)) Caffeine actually helps, though super market brands often have preservatives and msg, so I am very wary. Tea is a great help, and vegetarian broth from a natural food store, but no supermarket brands, because of the chemicals. Our Dr. retired recently, and we never clicked with any of the referrals-- My best therapy was cuddling our old cat--but she died over Christmas. Spouse is stressed from work and family issues (where are on different pages), and travels a lot. Drugs, which I have done in the past, just make the doctor feel better.
