"Cad" could mean old chick, old lady but since the "cad" comes back with the driver, I wonder if it's not "Cad" as in "Cadillac." Could be.

*Truckstop is close to the atmosphere but a "restauroute" is merely a restaurant on a road - they often are rather nice swanky places in France.
