Mama Cass was ELAINE 'SPANKY' McFARLAND at least in some incarnations.(spelling?) Spelling was Mcfarlane or McFarlane, I'm not sure if she capitalized the "F". Attended high school at the Academy of Our Lady in Peoria, Illinois with my sisters, I was across the street at the boys' school, Spalding Institute. According to them, she was a great gal, and never interested in anything but music! She replaced Gusty Hervey in the New Wine Singers, fronted by Malcom Hale, and that group trasmogrified into Spanky and Our Gang. I have no idea what Elaine is doing today - perhaps another Mudcatter knows.
