On about 4th September 1965 I organized a Charity Folk Concert in Ampthill Bedfordshire. We had as our main guest Rick Norcross from Vermont U.S.A. He brought Weston Gavin with him and asked if we could give him a spot at the concert, I explained we had a full programme but eventually conceded and said he could have 10 minutes i.e. time for two songs. When it was time for Weston to go on we could not find him. We eventually found him in the toilets gargling with a honey drink, he said he always had to gargle before singing. He then went on stage to do his 10 minute spot, (two songs) however his two songs took over 30 minutes!!! one of his songs was "JUST A CLOSER WALK WITH THEE" and I must admit I have never heard a better version of that song before or since then, I can not remember what the other song was. Incidently George Norris and Rick Norcross last year met up with me and my wife Nancy in Spain for a 45 year reunion of the Bedford Clangers Folk Club and played several gigs on the Spanish Costa Blanca.
