Actually this song dates back into the late 1800's. Almost every songster who did folk and minstrel has performed a verson of the song. Bill Monroe made it a "bluegrass" standard, while Leadbelly did the "Blues" version. It was one of the first tunes I learned as a young boy in Appalachia.
