GUEST,Uncle Jaque 'Power of Music 1860-1915' Exhibit -Lewiston Maine (8) RE: 'Power of Music 1860-1915' Exhibit -Lewiston Maine 20 Jul 12

The Museum LA or Museum of Lewiston / Auburn (Twin cities separated by the Androscoggin River).

It seems to be a pretty new endeavor, as when I went in there they were doing a lot of painting and fixing up. It is in what used to be the BATES shoe / textile mill down by the river off of Canal St..

I'm not too sure but what this might be their first exhibit.

A Friend from my Civil War reenacting unit, the 3rd Maine Infantry, works there and remembering my proclivity for music of the period, called me up to arrange the loan of some of my antique instruments for the display.

The Museum seems to be about preserving the cultural history of the area and serves as an educational extension for both the community and the local schools. Bates College is in Lewiston so I imagine they interact a bit with the academic community.

We had an interesting discussion about the "political correctness" (or lack thereof) in some of the music of the 1800s and the conflict between historical integrity and modern sensitivities.

Subject for another topic I suppose...
