No John - W7, IE9.

In tools>internet options> (tick 'delete browsing history on exit') then 'delete' which opens another window, tick 'preserve favorites' and then press 'delete' (you would expect a 'save settings', but no)

in w98 days, before I learned better, I thought the idea of a computer was that you could set it up how you liked! And with w98 you could 'easily' change things. Sometimes changing things didn't work, and neither did the pc (os that is) afterward! So I did a lot of reinstalling windows. Which overwrites everything you've done. And you must start all over again.
So I soon learnt that the way out was to partition the disc and move everything off the os partition, including things like the start menu, send to menu (which worked properly in w98), and quick launch, as well as documents. So a hierarchy of folders with url's was included. And copied from one machine to another through the ages.
Hence, I've never used favorites; or wab, preferring to keep my addresses seperate and encoded.
With w7 I've given up trying . The continual arguing with it over which folders are whose and what I can and can't do has made me a very grumpy old man. But I don't have to reinstall it often. At all, in fact. Two system restores in a year, that's all.
If only MS would write an os as good as 98 and as pretty as 7.
Anyway, thanks for the help.
