diesels since 2005 ish have had particulate filters fitted, making them very clean. Add the economy, ie, less fuel burning and they are exceedingly clean. I pay no road fund tax and on an average tank get 70mpg. Not bad considering it includes lots of single lane carriageway, having to overtake etc.
