I don't organise a folk club, but I'm on the committee of our dance club and organise the callers rota. I do that because I want to see the dancing continue, and to pass on the help and encouragement I was given when I started calling. I have also organised a few dance events - it is quite challenging, the worry about losing money but also not getting enough people to make the event enjoyable. The Have-a-Go dance play & call faded due to people who came having other calls on their time. 2 dozen - great, almost too crowded. 18-15 - OK. 12 or less not really on. Knowing when to advertise & hope things will pick up to pull the plug is hard.
